Yesterday Samantha, JP and I drove out to Elgin to visit the recently opened Elgin Railway Market. While looking through my instagram feed I notice this market had been mentioned by the #discoverOverberg crowd I follow and when I popped by the Elgin Railway Market instagram feed - I was in awe and had to go there.
The space really didn't disappoint. We decided to go through early so that we could see the space quite empty - it was breathtaking. The massive belt driven fans really steal the show but there is so much intricate detailing in the iron and wood work that you spend ages just standing staring at everything, trying to take in all the detail. Photos really can't do this space any justice. It's incredible.
There are a quite a few food stalls, coffee stops, a butchery and a massive bar area as well as a few shops on the top floor - vintage clothing, some gifting and jewellery. The space is really massive with plenty of seating downstairs, upstairs overlooking the space and a nice sunny rooftop area too where you can take in the view of the apple fields and watch the trains go by. The market gets packed, there is live music playing to entertain people while they enjoy their meals and drinks. We were there early so we grabbed some breakfast and coffee. Afterwards we grabbed some really incredibly fudge from The Original Fudge Kitchen (there are so many great flavours and they were running a special where you paid R100 for 3 big wedges of fudge).
Another really cool thing is that there is a stream train that runs from the Royal Cape Yacht Club to the Elgin station where you can enjoy the market for 3 hours before heading back to Cape Town. It is a really unique way to enjoy this market. If you are interested in doing this you can visit the Ceres Rail Company website for more details. At the time of writing this post the tickets prices were R750 for adults and R500 per child.
The market runs from Friday to Sunday but serves coffee 7 days a week.
Friday: 4pm - 8pm
Saturday: 9am - 8pm
Sunday: 9am - 6pm

I shared quite a lot of photos on my Instagram and have saved stories to my Exploring highlights reel if you want to take a look (I am gee-whiskers on there). I didn't want to overload this post with too many photos.
Big Hugs,

I find these places interesting as these are not usually visited. Now, storyboarding for beginners has gotten easier with digital marketing experts. I would love to go to these marketplaces.
