• #discoverOverberg | Day 1

Every time I set out to plan a weekend away I was look at the Overberg area, specifically Elgin, and  zone in on Old MacDaddy. It is a place I have been wanting to stay at for literally years. I remember back in 2011 discovering their website and promising myself I would go there. Unfortunately every time I have wanted to book they have been fully booked out and I moved on to other places. Finally this year I was in luck when looking for a place to stay over my Birthday long weekend.
We started out trip with a lunch and cider tasting at Peregrine Farm Stall - I always love stopping here when traveling along the N2. They have yummy padkos, an excellently stocked deli and their restaurant serves home cooked style food. The area is perfect for stretching your legs and grabbing a bite to eat. There is also a big play area for children to play.

After filling up our bellies we headed to Old MacDaddy.

For those of you who are not familiar with Old MacDaddy - it is a luxury trailer park. All the rooms are uniquely decorated airstream trailers with all the luxuries you would expect in a hotel room.

As soon as you turn off the N2 you find yourself in the heart of apple farms and vineyards - it is incredibly beautiful and just the type of breakaway I wanted. Arriving at Old MacDaddy we were greeted by such friendly staff. One thing that was truly wonderful throughout our entire stay was how great the staff are - Always friendly and super helpful!

We were booked into The Birdie trailer - a little airstream trailer that is somewhat secluded from the other trailers and main hotel area. The trailer is meant for two people, has a private under cover patio and bathroom. The trailer is equipped with a fully stocked mini bar (a bright red SMEG fridge), kettle and a Nespresso machine.

Although we had a neighbouring trailer, it was set in such a way that we were never overlooked and our view of the farmlands was uninterrupted. The trailer is called Birdie because it is meant for "love birds" - it really is super cute!

We spent a few hours taking in the view from our hammocks and then headed down to the "Beach" to do some archery. Old MacDaddy offers a lot of activities to keep guests entertained - archery, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, tractor rides and so much more.

There is something for everyone. You can buy a day pass to have full access to all activities or pay per activity you do which is booked through the front desk.

After some archery we headed back to our trailer for a short nap before heading to the restaurant for supper. Supper was delicious! I had pork belly with mash potatoes while JP opted for the Oxtail - it was the hearty meal we needed to warm us up.
Autumn evenings in the Overberg area gets really chilly and you need something to warm you up. We happily returned to our trailer for a good night's rest ready to explore the area in the morning.

In my next post I'll be chatting about the area and the wine farms we visited.

    Big Hugs,
    Charlene XXX
