• Getting a bit personal again

This past weekend I treated myself to some Dior products. You all know that I am a massive fan of the brand and over the years I have collected a really nice stash of the products (click here to read my Doir posts).  I don't know why, but I have become very aware of posting photos of my purchases on social media. I think it is largely due to the fact that I have seen such nasty comments on other people's feeds and I don't really want to expose myself to that.
When I look back on my childhood and adult life, it hasn't ever been a case of simply having things handed to me. I was brought up with the concept of working hard in order to earn things and I was made aware of the value of money from a young age. These things have always been part of me and it means that I am always working hard to improve in my career and doing things that go beyond what is expected of me, to ensure that I continue to grow in my chosen career path. Now I get that one can work hard and buy expensive things without having to "show them off" - but to me it isn't a case of showing them off. I am a beauty blogger so naturally I share the majority of my beauty purchases with my followers.  I want people to know what it is that I am choosing to spend my hard earned money on, to see what I like to use and I try to share my experiences with expensive brands so that you know if it is worth splurging on.

I am well aware of the fact that this post could potentially be interpreted incorrectly, but I wanted to share the reason why I share these photos on my social media accounts and why they are on my blog. They are what I save up for in order to treat myself - they are my rewards for having to sacrifice a lot of my personal time to do extra work. The fact that I also don't have children means I can also spend more money on myself and while I can, I will do so.

Anyway, I am known for sharing these types of posts every now and then. If I have poked a sensitive nerve with anyone I do apologise, but at the same time this is my space and my social media accounts are my own. If my posts are upsetting then you can hit the unfollow button, I won't take it personally.

Now that all of that is off my chest, I hope you all have a great week ahead.

    Big Hugs,
    Charlene XXX

    1. I think people are just nasty sometimes for no reason. Yes.. Fancier brands are pricey.. So it's a treat for you.. (And of course you want to share what you got yourself.. People might be intrested to hear YOUR thoughts on one of them) . And its not like you buy them everyday (which even if you did.. Its your money in the end). I personally love your Dior posts.. I might hardly buy Dior, but its fun to see what is our there to get.

      1. Thank you Lynette. I had a look to see when last I splurged on Dior and it was exactly 19 weeks ago....so I it was justified...ha ha. I always appreciate your supportive comments XXX

    2. I completely agree - I am not a beauty blogger but I still like to share my purchases, since most of my followers on social media love makeup too. Recently I have been a little apprehensive for the same reasons you gave. xxx

      1. It is actually quite sad that we have to be so worried about sharing things on Social Media. Like you said, we follow each other because we all love makeup too. I know you work very hard for what you have so you deserve all the makeup treats you want - plus we don't have children so it means we can spend more money on "selfish" things :P

    3. Charlene you are way too sweet! The fact that you buy products and not just post about freebies all the time makes me respect you more. You also host giveaways where you spend your own hard earned money on your fans. You are so generous and have a big heart. Don't let any negative person get you down. I personally love seeing what you buy. Have a great week :)

      1. I do try to strike a good balance. I love hosting giveaways - actually feels like it has been ages since I've done one. I think that needs to change ;) Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. I know you have been a supporter of my blog for such a long time. XXX

    4. I was actually just this morning looking at a "socialite's" Instagram account, and it did kind of leave a bad taste in my mouth. No happy pics, just Gucci, Cucci, Prada (to quote that terrible song :P), and it does seem like they're just showing off! But with beauty bloggers, you kind of expect to see their purchases, be it Revlon or something high-end. Frankly, I VERY rarely buy high-end products, because I have rent to pay, my money just don't stretch that far yet, and buying products on credit is just a no no for me - but when I do, I like to look at your and other blogger's reviews of it, because I trust your judgment more than Cosmo's. Afterall, you also had to pay for it! Please continue to share, it's informative :)

      1. I can understand how people get rubbed up the wrong way when others are excessive and need to show off on social media. I don't follow those types of accounts so that I am not exposed to it. But the fact of the matter is, those who have the money have a right to spend it however they choose to. I know I sometimes struggle to understand the logic behind some people's purchases, but it isn't even my place to try to justify or reason it. They can do what they want.

I know all about bills, bonds and everyday costs - we all have to deal with it - but I don't think I necessarily need to apologise to anyone for any kind of financial freedom I have because I worked hard to get to where I am today. I am by no means rich and can't just spend money on whatever I want to, but I do save up for the things I want to treat myself to. I agree with you when it comes to buying on credit, it is not a path I am willing to go down which means I do often miss out on the things I really want because I can't justify the purchase at the time (and there are other costs that are more important i.e. have to replace my car’s tyres or fix things around the house).

I am glad you do find value in me sharing my experiences with brands and that you can then make a better decision when you do decide to spoil yourself to an expensive product.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts - I do appreciate it XXX
