- 1 and a half cups of milk (I have tried it with low fat and full cream milk, both work well in this recipe)
- 1 cup of cream (again, reduced fat cream works just as well as full cream)
- 2 eggs
- Sugar to taste (I add about 1 and a half tablespoons of sugar)
- Nutmeg
- Cinnamon
- Vanilla extract (or vanilla essence if you just want it to smell nicer)
- Optional: Rum or something creamy like Amarula and Cape Velvet works well
Method:
Add the milk, cream, eggs and sugar to a sauce pan. Whisk the ingredients together on a medium heat. As the ingredients heat up add the spices (add according to taste but remember nutmeg should be used sparingly else it will taste like bark). Continue to whisk the mixture for about 4-5 minutes until the mixture is hot. Turn the stove off and if you like, add in some alcohol of your choice (to your preferred strength). Another nice addition is some white chocolate - finely chop it up before adding to the hot mixture and simple stir it in as it melts.
Choose to drink it hot or cold. I definitely think it would make a wonderful base to a milkshake. Simply let the mixture cool and then add some soft ice cream to it - whisk it up and you are good to go.
For those that haven't completed all their Christams shopping - why not make a batch of this, pour it into a beautiful glass bottle and tie some ribbon around it. I'm sure the receiver will appreciate it a lot.
Yumm - thank you :)
